Is their any benefit to running the air conditioning and the ceiling fans at the same time?
Question:Do you think it saves money to run them both at the same time?
I am asking for when we are home as well as when we are not home.
Our register vents are on the ceiling.
Also clockwise or counter clockwise?

you really want to run the fans pointing the air downward since you have your vents on the ceiling, and yes run them all the time, it moves the air, i even use small fans in the area where i am sitting, move it about with me if i need to. it makes you feel cooler without lowering the room temp at all, also use heavy drapes to keep out direct sun, we have very heavy double drapes on the east and west sides. shade screen all around, and aluminum on the east end bedroom window to keep out the early morning sun, the air doesnt come on till after 11 am and its already 110 here in vegas.
Blow the air down in summer. It will give you a nice breeze and push the cooler air at the floor up the walls and back to the fan. CIRCULATION!. I keep mine on year round. 24 hrs a day.
yes- air travelling over the surface of the skin makes you feel cooler. while the air con. actually drops the temp of the air. keep the fans on all the time-and as stated here already- make sure the blades are facing down-this is the standard for most residentail ceiling fans- there should be a little switch on the head of the fan that drives them reverse o forward. keep the aircon set to auo start/stop at a specific temp to keep the air temp down but the power bill under control.
Run your fan at a low speed blowing upward. Hot air rises and you don't want to force it back down. The cool air will settle by itself. I actually prefer no ceiling fan at all unless your ceilings are ten feet or more. The A/C system should have been designed to work efficiently without ceiling fans, if it was, using the fans will decrease the efficiency of the system.
