Why does the en-suite in my newbuild apartment smell of fusty chemicals?

Question:The plumber says it has nothing to do with water or drains. I have removed the carpet an underlay thinking that the smell originated from there. I have a suspicion that the smell is coming from the adhesive underneath the wooden carpet grippers on the perimeter. Is this likely? The smells seems to come and go though making it extremely difficult to identify its source. I plan to get the floor replaced with Vinyl and the wood and adhesive removed beforehand. Does anybody have any suggestions of what it might be?

Answers:
You did not say how old the house is. Less than 1 month, 2 months? Did you check the heat/ac unit. They use glue to put the ducks together. Did you put in new window covers? May be the new fabrics? Wall paper? It is very unlikely its the strip glue, most of the time if the strips are glued down its with a tube of construction glue.

Could be paint fumes but when we go to check out paint cmells it often turns out to be the carpet itself, especially when new. Remember bugs like to eat testiles and they are full of chemicals to keep them fluffy or flat or stainproof.
