they are lind of hard to get rid of :/
use ant sand and a professional exterminator to do it.
Get a good red pepper based spray to begin with , it is a natural product that you can get on-line or at your local organic gardener. Find the trails that they are coming from and you have to really hose down the bathrooms because they are looking for water or food. They will even eat soap if it is available so put everything away while you are treating, and put it into plastic bags for the time being. Clean your kitchen and spray it down and leave the pepper spray overnight on everything. In the morning wipe everything down and then spray with 60% bleach and water and you won't see any more.. but you need to keep your kitchen immaculate and if you cook alot it is hard to keep up with it. This works for all kinds of unwanted insects in the house
Never heard of fire ants getting into homes, you would need to evacuate and call an exterminator. For regular ants, small ones, but the readily available ant baits, they work in a few days plus watch and see where they are coming and going, and spray outside where they are living. I did find a nest of ants one time in one of my houseplants, if you have them there, take the whole plant out--put it in a plastic bag to keep from dropping them as they swarm, and leave it out until the ants move on.
