How to get rid of a gnat problem in the home?
Question:I dont have plants in my house nor is there fruit out and my house is so clean the only smell around is bleach and pine sol and one minute I kill one of them, then five pop out from no where what can I do? And why do they fly in front of your face.
Answers:
i have 2 ideas.
1) your home may not be as clean as you think. bleach and pine have nothing to do with it. these things not coming out of just no where. that is not possible. check under, behind, between, on top of everything. there could be a hole to the outside, old food/fruit, etc.
2)as for as your face, my personal opinion is that the gnats are attracted to either what seems like a warm, moist place with many entrances to fly into or they are attracted to the carbon monoxide. either way, they will follow your eyes and nose until they land in one of those places.
they like people...call a pest control company. They may be in the walls or somewhere you'd never suspect.
haha...LOL sorry call a pest control company
I heard you put a container of something sweet like juice or wine and they will land in it. Or something to that affect.
gnats are attracted to perfume and deoderants. thats why they buzz around your head like the annoying little buggers they are. you could always get a carnivorus plant like a pitcher plant or venus fly trap. also fly papper works well.
If you don’t know how to get rid of gnats, you definitely aren’t alone. Gnats are very small and hard to catch, hard to shoo out of the house, and multiply like crazy. In fact, most people don’t know how to get rid of gnats. Gnats are attracted to easily-accessible sources of food, which many people are aware of, but they are also attracted to warm, moist places.
This means that not only your garbage cans (change them regularly if you’re having a gnat problem of any kind), but also your house plants might be singing a siren song of welcome to gnats. Inside your home, with its comfortable climate and no possibilities of rain, gnats are incredibly attracted to the small plants that you tend to. Avoid over-watering your plants, and be sure your plants have a way to drain excess water.
Put all foodstuffs away in air-tight containers, like your refrigerator, and be sure not to let any food products sit around in the open. This, and frequently changing your garbage cans, will help reduce a gnat infestation. Take care of your plants properly and keep foods sealed, and you won’t have to worry about a gnat problem. But if you need to know to get rid of gnats, then they’re already a part of your household.
Once you have gnats, they can seem impossible to shake. You may need to resort to chemical bug bombs or traps to kill the last of the gnats once they have found the inside of your home. When it comes to gnats, prevention is the key. Once you know how to properly prevent a gnat infestation, you won’t have to worry about how to get rid of gnats. But once they find their way into your home, even a thorough cleaning and getting rid of all the trash may not drive them out. You may need to resort to other means. One good way to lure all the gnats to one place is to leave a tray of partially-rotten, juicy fruit sitting out. They’ll be drawn to the fruit, and then they will all be in one place so that you can dispose of them, perhaps with chemical agents.
get a fly strip and check all of the dry foods in the kitchen the old items take them out..
Maybe is the season I'm having the same problem and I have a pet so I have to be very carefull. I sprayed OFF around and it stopped them 4 a while, Can someone please share a good answer. I even seen them in the fridge, and I don't leave any fruit or trash around.
There are a lot of good answers here, I don't know for a FACT that this will work, but I've heard people swear by it...take a cup of Apple cider vinegar, with a couple of drops of dish detergent in it and set it in an area where these are and they will die?!?!?! Worth a shot I guess, the only time I get these is if I put fruit or veggie peelings in the trash and don't take it out asap.
