Has anyone had any experience with the ductless mini split a/c systems ie hitachi etc?
Question:are these systems really reliable and efficient
Answers:
These systems work well and are easy to install. We install them all the time. Mitsubishi even makes a system that has several indoor fan coils piped to a single outdoor condensing unit. It is very efficient because it has a mixing manifold in the refrigerant system to use the heat removed from one zone to heat another zone.
The only drawbacks are the equipment is more expensive than standard equipment and there is no distribution so the cooling is only for one area or room per indoor fan coil.
They make these up to 3 tons so they can do an area a lot larger than a closet. 3 tons of AC is enough to cool the average modest sized home in its entirety.
I've seen several small Mitsubishi units used and they seem to perform well. The ones I've seen were used to cool small enclosed telephone equipment closets and don't seem to have the capacity to do anything more than that.
