What do we use Gravel for?

I have gravel in between the walkway and the areas of my garden. I also have gravel in my pond, red river gravel. I am also planning to use some sort of decrotive type gravel for the area around my pond and maybe the walkway from my porch to my pond.
Also when I was at GTMO, they used gravel on the entire camp. You would go into work with black boots and they would come out white.

Gravel has many purpose's. If you dig a ditch all the way around a flowerbed, you can use gravel to fill it and make it look nice. You can use it as a base for pouring concrete and road-bond. ( but you said besides roads,sorry) I dunno, that's all I can think of...for now.
