Builder stole my deposit?

Question:I have just had a builder steel my deposit and not do any work, is there any way I can find out if he has done this to anyone else

Answers:
trading standards or federation of master builders

Take this dead bet to court...
Get him on the bad list.
You can try the BBB, but in reality they are on the business side, not the consumer. This is a prime example of why you want to make sure to use an established, reputable company. A bargain often turns out to not be so.
Go to local trading standards office. You will find them at your local council offices. report the builder. They will investigate on your behalf.
sorry you have been rip off.next time get the land line number and ring it up.
Report him to trading standards, then kick the **** outta him.
Go through tradin standards then put his name all over the area and internet so no one else gets conned
There are so many dishonest, lowlife thieiving scumbags in this world. That's why you have to investigate every contractor and get references on them. Do you even know who he is or where he lives?
Every town has a contractors board the gives them there license. Assuming that he had one. Check with them and see if he has a bond. If he does you can request a hearing before the board and ask them to resolve your com plant. If he wants to keep his license he will have to comply with what they say.
Also if you are in the UK contact watchdog and your local radio.
Then contact the police and trading standards etc. f you have any proof of the payments you gave then you will need it.
You should never pay for stuff before they have done it.

I would also want to go and punch him one
Call the BBB (Better Business Bureau) & see if anyone has reported him. Get a good lawyer & don't let this crook get away with stealing your deposit.
Did you not get a receipt? You can't be too carefull these days. Speak to your Lawyer or go to Citizens Advice. I would also report the To-rag to the Trading Standards.
Why the bounder.the rotten cowboy..he should be prosecuted!! The penny pinching imposters.
First of all, as a builder myself I would like to apologise on behalf of all hard working builders.
As a rule of thumb, we never ask for deposits up front as any tidy builder/trademan will have credit accounts to buy materials with. If anyone asks for cash up front tell him to get on his horse and to ride off into the sunset.
Unfortunalty there are so many people out there who have a cheap van and a few tools and think they are Tommy Walsh and these people are untraceable.
Sorry
This would be a police matter and perhaps for the Trading Standards agency (If you're in the UK) Report the builders, it's entirely possible that you're not the first victim. Keep any invoices or receipts and any other evidence you might have, best of luck.
Trading standards and the police as that is theft.
