Building code violations?

Question:im building a deck, to comply with codes i have to be 5 feet away from the property line.i cant build it the way i want without taking up the 5 feet to the property line, my question is what are my reprecussions if i dont comply and get caught by the inspector.

Sensible-man is right. It is possible though, to get a variance if you can come up with a plausible reason. Probably you would have to get your neighbor to agree.
