How to get rid of wasps (hornets) from around the pool!?!?!?
Question:I tried to do that cutting the top of a 2 liter pop and turning the lid upside down so there's a funnel going into the bottom of the pop bottle. I added pop to the bottom of the container, but there are still a lot of wasps around. We killed off a nest, and these wasps seem like their coming from all around. We're the only ones in our area, within about 10 acres, that has an open pool - but the kids are fearful that they're going to get stung!
Help! I need something quick, because it's bloody hot out, and anytime I have the sprinkler on, any of the hoses, or the pool open, the wasps and hornets come around!!
Answers:
Yep...They are thirsty. I have the same problem with my pool. I have put out some traps that I got Home Depot. They didn't work. I keep a can of Wasp and Hornet Spray handy. I found a nest inside my gate today. Just tell the kids to leave them alone. They will come in and get water and leave. I have trapped them under water with the leaf net. Them buggers can stay alive under water for about 5 minutes. My son is 30 yrs old and he is scared to death of them. I got stung twice last Wednesday from a nest that was in my grape vines. Got rid of it. Leg is still swollen in two places. Good Luck!
Try the little yell wasp killers they are professionally made traps. you can buy them a any hardware or gardening store
Unfortunately, the wasps are thirsty and you are giving them a ready source of water. Try to overcome your fear of these insects and teach the children that the wasps are not after them, but the water. The wasps like to drink at the edge of puddles, so if you can eliminate the puddles as much as possible, you may reduce the attraction for the wasps. We know, this will not be easy for kids who spend as much time getting in and out of the pool as they do in the pool.
The wasp traps that you describe are most effective for yellow jackets.
