Does anybody have an above ground pool?

Question:If so, do you have a hard time keeping the water from turning a green'ish color? Directions for chemical use, conditioner use, cleaning with a long-poled brush and vaccum have all been followed correctly. It's just impossible to keep the water clear. And we just don't know what else to do. Anybody have any suggestions or comments?

Just got done answering this same question about 2 seconds ago. Follow these simple rules. Make sure filter is clean and is working properly. Go to a pool supply store and buy something called, "Black Algaecide." Is is more powerful than anything you will find at Walmart, etc. It costs about $20 a quart. Pour that into your pool and wait overnight. All the algae should be settled into the bottom of your pool. Vacuum it up, and if any is on the sides, physically brush this off. With the algaecide, it should brush off very easily, no need for scrubbing. Add clarifier to your water and make sure you have a good concentration of Chlorine. Follow this rule of thumb.."If you can smell chlorine in your pool, you don't have enough chlorine." I have used this rule of thumb for 20 years now and is has always worked. I have never had my water checked in 20 years and we have crystal clear water every year. Make sure your skimmer basket is clear and not blocked with leaves, etc. Back wash your filter to make sure it is filtering properly. Fill all chlorine dispensers and maybe give it one good bag of shock. You should be good to go. Best of luck.

I had this Problem awhile back before I purchased an Inground Pool. You need to install a larger "Sand Filter" system. Chances are you are using the paper Filters, and they just do not work that well in Hot Summer months. I also installed a Chlorinator, which will automatically distribute Chlorine into the pool. After I did this, I no longer spent so much of my time worrying about "how to keep the pool Clean" and started actually enjoying my Pool. Yes you will have to invest a little money to get it right, but it is soooo worth it..
You need to get a sample of water down to your local pool store and have them test it for the following:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Phosphates

Bring the results back and post them or feel free to drop me a line at robandliz1992@yahoo.com Don't purchase anything from the pool store at this time, tell them you have the chemicals at home. Once we interpret the test results you'll be able to shop for the exact chemicals to solve the problem without guessing and without spending money on stuff you don't need that the pool store will try selling you.

Without knowing the water chemistry any recommendations on chemical additions can cause more problems than it solves.
Try using shock..it"s a chemical...
