Needle thread not catching bobbin thread?

Question:Hello, I have a new front-loading Euro Pro 385x (which does not seem to be listed on the company website) and already I am frustrated with it. The needle thread simply does not catch the bobbin thread below; I read about a loop that is supposed to catch the thread but I don't see how that works. I have tried reading the manual over and over again and studied the diagrams but it is not detailed enough. I turned the wheel both directions, held the top thread all different directions, re-threaded the machine, re-inserted the bobbin case, reset the needle and pulled out both threads very long, but nothing. If it helps, when I place the "finger" of the bobbin case into the slot, only the shuttle turns, not the case itself. Can someone help me?

Answers:
That happened with my 57-year-old Singer, which is my primary machine, because its stitch is so beautiful Turned out I'd installed a new needle, backward.
