Why do drops of water form on growing wheat grass?
Question:I have been growing wheat grass in a container underneath a light inside. I noticed drops of water clinging to the tips of the growing blades and brushed them off thinking they were left from being watered. A few hours later there were more drops. I searched and this is characteristic of wheat grass, but I have not been able to find an explaination.
Answers:
It's called condensation. Normal occurrence in high humidity.
Plants draw water up by capillary action. When you cut the blade the capillary action will still bring up water through the cut edge. My guess is that wheat grass allows the capillary action to take water out through the tip if it is not needed by the blades
