How high is a one story building?
Question:Is there a standard or one that's commonly used?
Answers:
typically, wall height for a 1 story residential building is 10'. plus you have to count the roof, and the foundation.
Commercial buildings can be anywhere from 10'-15' for a 1 story.
Good luck, hope that helps!!
edit: to the person that said it was 8', no, it's not 8' anymore. now a days they go a bit higher to incorporate heating elements and floor joists. The typical foundation is 2 and a half to 4' from top of footing to sill plate. We have not done an 8' tall upper level wall in over 5 years. I've been working in this field for the past 10 years and the shortest GARAGE wall I've encountered was 9'. Hope you find your answer!
If a flat roof, 10-11 ft.
Depends on the foundation and the roof pitch. If the foundation is 32" up, then the flooring between 10" and 12" plus the walls at 8' then the roof at a 4" pitch per foot say 4' to 5' at the middle, plus a little for the roof shingles. Don't know who the ding a ling is with the 10' walls. I would guess he designs commercial structures, or million $ mansions(there are many). And 9' is standard for garage walls. They have to be a little higher to accomondate the overhead door.
Standard wall height for a residential building is EIGHT feet (not 10' as previously stated). From there, the height of the foundation and the pitch of the roof will determine the height.
A 1000 square foot house with a 4/12 roof would not normally be as high as a 2400 square foot house with a 4/12 roof, assuming they both have the same height foundation and an 8' wall. So, as you see, there is no real way to answer your question.
