Should you ever lay a refrigerator down to move it?
Question:
Answers:
The common tale is no. But if you have to let it stand for several hours before plugging it in. 24 hours is best. The reason is that there is oil in the compressor and laying it down allows it to get into the cooling coils. The oil is vaporized by the compressor and flows through out the system and if any is trapped in the coils it will block the refrigerant from cooling the box.
I don't know why, but I heard never lay a refrigerator down.
you CAN - but allow it to stand upright overnight before plugging it in - to allow the freon to resettle.
When you have a new fridge delivered and it's still in the manufacture's cardboard box, there's big arrows pointing to which way up it is to be transported. And that is standing up so best to keep it that way. Just the other day a friend said he layed one down, transported, then stood it up for a day and when he turned it on it didn't work. It was only a couple of years old.
Probably best to keep it the right way up.
NEVER!
