Is it really unlawful to own a piece of property without a dwelling and live on it in a tent?

Question:A realestate agent told me it was illegal in Maryland

Answers:
Most places have zoning laws against it. In a lot of places you can't put up a trailer either. If you are way out in the country surrounded by undeveloped land, it is probably OK. Living in tents causes health problems since people must dispose of their body waste.

you have to check with your township or local ordinances. Each area can have its own ordinances regarding dwellings - for example my county does not allow 'privey's' (outdoor in-ground toilets) thus my county does not have any Amish residing here. A couple neighboring counties do allow that type of toilet facility and those counties are fairly populated with Amish.
Check with your local ordinances. Problems in the past might have made it necessary to make such an ordinance in your area. If it is wooded outdoor area, used primarily for camping, you should be OK. But, maybe not as a life-long residence.
