Japanese Beetles?
Question:I have a terrible investation of japanese beetle in my rose, and i'm afraid it'll go on to my Dahlias. What is the best way to get ride of them. I've used insecticide but they are still there. They have destroyed all my roses.
Answers:
This year seems to be exceptionally bad for Japanese Beetles. I've studied this, myself, as my mother's flowering trees are complete lace, courtesy of them.
From what I've read, you can either use Seven powder, or, for a less harmful method, shake them off into a pan of water with dish soap in it. Apparently, soapy water kills them instantly (Palmolive or Dawn was recommended).
If you purchase those bait bags, make sure you place them a good 20-feet away from your plants, as the phermones in the bait attracts them, as well as kills them. Change the bag once a week.
Good luck!!
Japanese Beetle trap is the best way to get them out of the garden. I like them because there is no insecticide on the flowers or ground. They are attracted to the bait, fly in and drown. You have to change the bag full of beetles every couple of days and replace it. But, you will be surprised at how many you will have. You can get them at the nursery, garden center at the home improvement and discount stores. Just hang them from a tree in the area you want to protect and they do all of the work.
You can't eliminate them, but you can reduce the number. It stinks, I know, I have them as well. I have researched this for years. I try to treat for grubs that turn into J Beetles, but they fly over from my neighbors. What you have to do is hand collect them each morning, and I do that a couple times a day when I can. I use a coffee can with a lid. I put some water with dish soap in it, and place it under where the beetles are, using the lid to knock them off or close it on the beetles, basically sliding them into the can. Leave lid on, shack. Later on if they are all dead, pour them down the sewer. BTW those Japanese Beetle traps actually attract more beetles than it kills, or so the articles say. Here's more info:
