Why aren't businesses more efficient with the power supply during these really hot days?

Question:I was just watching the news, they were in NYC talking about the power usage during this heat spell, and all of those huge signs were lighted in the background in the daytime. I expect one of those would take more power than a home. Does New Yorkers really need to see those everyday?

Answers:
This is a great question. If you live in NYC, write your City Council rep and the mayor. If not, write Mayor Bloomberg anyway. He cares about such things. Or write a letter to the NY Times and the Daily News. And to WABC-TV's Seven on Your Side. I live near NYC, and was careful today not to use the toaster, and wait till nighttime to use the dishwasher. Everyone should do their part, and you're right: the big lights on Broadway could go dark on hot days.
