I need help keeping my house cool with a swamp cooler?
Question:my house is always hot. we only have a swamp cooler and it doesn't seem to help, any suggestions?
Answers:
If this is a swamp cooler that hangs out the window and has water hooked up to it...go to an ice house, buy a few big blocks of ice..go outside open a panel..put blocks of ice in there away from moving parts etc...This can be a little expensive unless you have an ice house that sells bulk ice by the pound...but if you have a lot of friends with freezers..you can have them all freeze milk jugs of ice for you, cut off the carton and put ice in it..the wheel in the swamp cooler sucks that cold water from the ice and walla..cooler air!
Buy a window unit air conditioner!!!
I would suggest getting some premium pads for the cooler. you can also buy an oversized pump. If all else fails go with the old waterhose. If it is humid where you live just suck it up and wait for fall, Swampy's suck in humidity
Keep one or two windows open an inch or two. I would always run the pump for at least 5 minutes before turning the fan on, to make sure that the pads were well soaked. Also, humidity is a big factor. If the air outside is very humid, the swamp cooler will not help.
I was so happy the day we got rid of our old swamp cooler and had central air installed!!
