Are large cockroaches and palmetto bugs a common pest in upstate South Carolina?

Question:I grew up in Florida and am fully aware that palmetto bugs and the larger cockroaches are a part of life there, despite how much you clean. I am moving to upstate South Carolina, outside of Greenville to be exact, and have been told by my landlord that I won't need a pest control company. It's a necessity in Florida, so it's natural that I was curious. I am hoping someone will confirm or correct this statement. Basically I was told that the only roaches I will see in upstate South Carolina are the smaller, german ones that are brought in by dirty conditions. Is this true?

Answers:
Yes, it is true.

Here in the southwest we don't have any either. So as you can see there are many states that do not have these pests.

We use to live in Fla. so I know what you were up against.

Those creatures are indigenous to the state capitol building, so you should be fine, until you need their help or anything..
