A gross question but in need of an answer-Garbage can & Maggots?
Question:Okay, during the summer , my garbage can is sometimes covered with ...ugh..maggots. I washed the can with regular soap on a weekly basis, but they still keep coming back. Ugh, its so gross, it creeps me out. What can I use as a preventive to get rid of these yucky things?? I was not sure but would spraying with bleach help? I figured with the heat outdoors, that may not be a good idea since that may be a flammable liquid.
Suggestions are all welcomed!
Thanks!!

I have had that problem too. I think this week my system broke down. My husband put food/trash in without sealing. It is full of maggots. :( Anyways, Double bag any nasty trash. Washing should help. I sprayed the can with oven cleaner 'cause I didn't have anything else. I made a huge white foam and kept them from escaping and more flys from getting in. You can also place a liner in the can and always keep the lid on. Good Luck!
Spray with Ortho Home Defense. It will keep any bugs from living and lasts for 4 months. Just spray in and around garbage area. Works for me!!
Lining up the can with pesticides, although unsafe, should work.
Your common household pest control spray such as raid can do the job.
I'm not sure about bleach, you could experiment.
Three steps. Don't put anything into the can unless it is in a sealed bin liner. Do not use any chemicals or pesticides, but monthly wash with simple green or equal and dry when empty. Keep the lid sealed tightly.
