The hardware and lumber supply stores all sell books specifically about building decks. I'm no carpenter, and I built a deck using one of these that I'm very happy with. One bit of advice from my experience as an amateur: Take your time, and think through details carefully, such as how pieces will meet in a corner or what kind of stairs you want. I had to go back and undo a few things when I moved too quickly. Good luck!
lowe's,depot,on line even,if you need a permit make sure you'll be following local building codes,the guys at the lumber yards could give you advice and lowe's and dept both sell little books about decks and all home projects
