Antique Singer Sewing Machine?
Question:I recently purchased an antique Singer sewing machine. It's the kind that folds down inside the cabinet. Is there a website I can go to find out about it? Like when it was made? Maybe even who it belonged to first?
Does anyone know where the serial number is located? I think it's N374133 but I am not sure I am looking in the right place.
Also, are there any websites that tell how to properly clean it?
Thanks!

You should call a sewing machine service person to your home. Those machines often need thier timing adjusted and the tech will be able to answer all your questions.
I bought my wife an old machine and it just didn't quite work right and this worked for us. For 25 bucks it was like she had a new machine.

Look for the model number. It was typically on a small metal label on the right hand side of the machine just below the wheel on the deck of the machine itself, not the cabinet. Often there is a model number on the motor , in the back of the machine below the wheel on the machine deck. It would be a small metal plate on the motor.
Once you have a model number you can get a owners manual from Singer , it has the care instructions , including the oiling of the machine.
Most older Singer machines had 3 numbers like 206 , 306.
Tracking who it belonged to originally will be hard unless this is an item handed down within the family. The records were not "traceable" because most transactions where cash, handwritten reciepts by the dealer that sold it.
Good Luck!
