My barbecue was left out all winter covered but the grilles/plates have rusted a bit how do i clean them ??

Question:

Answers:
Buy some new grilles, or the rust will come off on your food. Most hardware stores sell replacements.

A wire brush should do the job, then wash them in warm soapy water and dry well.
Use the brass cleaning brush as you would after using the grill. Then spray with something like Pam.
Since they usually are covered steel, I would bush a grill brush, brush off the excess rust and ****, and then use a good oven cleaner on them, applying a thick layer outside, so you don't breathe in the fumes. In 12-24 hours, wash off the oven cleaner in the sink, and see if you need to rub with a lot of elbow grease. This usually gets my grills nice and clean, but if they are still bad after this, I would replace the grills.
they have grill scrapers you can buy. If you want to use the home remidies. soak in Coca cola and then use aluminum foil to scrape the extra off.
wire brush and warm soapy water and if you have some lime away that'll take the rust right off
Quick & easy way is to use baking soda.

option 1 - soaking in a solution of vinegar,
water & baking soda.

option 2 - if you have access to an air compressor,
use baking soda (similar to "sand blasting") and
spray the rust off without damaging the metal.

Just depends on the size of job & how quickly
you want to get that grill cooking again.
Take and wash them then spray a lite coat of Pam on them. When i get my pit ready for BBQ I take and get the grill hot and then rub a cut onion over the grill ti clean.Leaves it clean and tasting good.Hope this helps.
Wire brush the grill then wipe it clean. Use no water or soap. Light the grill and let the heat do the rest. Apply vegetable oil with paper towel to protect and clean grill. Before cooking apply fresh vegetable oil on the grills to prevent sticking.
steel wool. : )
