Kill and prevent cockroaches??
Question:So the apartment I'm moving into is in Florida, by the water, and the previous tenant said that he's had a few cockroaches- but he's also not the cleanest person. I am a very clean person and also totally freaked out by roaches. What is the best prevention/killer I can buy? Or when I get the place fumigated- what so i ask for? Thanks!

I've lived here all my life & in my current home for 3 years. If you're clean you having nothing to worry about. You won't get roaches. However, no matter how clean you are you may get an occasional Palmetto bug. Palmetto's are like giant roaches but they fly & bite. The mainly come out at night so my advice is: when you get home at night get in your house fast & don't leave your door open too long. Also, if you like the ocean breeze make sure your screens are sealed if you are going to have your windows open.
Hope this helps.
Buy the roach gel and that kills them, or you can bomb the entire house but ou can't be inside, they sell those kind of things at a rite aid, duane reade, walgreens etc...
find a different place if one person in a apt complex had them your neighbors probably do too
bug bombs
I would get a professional to come in and rid the house of the cockroaches. Cockroaches carry thirty different kinds of disease and bacterial infections. The professionals will come back and do it again if you find any more in your house.
Another suggestion is to use boric acid. It is a powder that is readily available in drug stores. It is inexpensive to use. Be sure to put in around your appliance as roaches love to be were it is warm. I agree with the other posts especially if you are in an apartment as it one has them it is likely that all tennants may. VERY good luck to you as they are hard to get rid of ESPECIALLY in FL.
I agree with the Boric Acid. Roach Prufe is one of the products you can find with Boric Acid. It is pretty safe to use. Follow directions on container. Use just a dusting in most places so it wont be seen. It can also be added to mop water and works on a lot of insects. Do a search on Boric acid for more information.
I use a product called Dursban, sold under the Spectricide label. This product is sold as a liquid concentrate and should be diluted to about 1/2 percent concentration.
I mix a small amount into an old windex bottle, and spray under the sink, along baseboards, under appliances, and anywhere I see them.
It's important to spray the entire house though around the baseboards and non-food areas.
This insectecide is very effective, but it will degrade in sunlight by itself. So repeat the treatment every 30 days, and the only bugs you will see will be dead ones.
I completely agree with deadgirl2020. You'll only waste your money if you buy into those crazy boric acid remedies. Just keep your apartment clean & make sure your screens are sealed.
Buy pest repellent beepers in Walmart's it takes about 2 weeks and they will go away ,they also keep out rodents and other bugs.
