Which way should fan blades turn in the summer?
Question:I know that there is a certain way you are supposed to have your ceiling fan blades face depending on what season it is..I just don't know what direction goes with what season! :)

Since cooler air settles to the floor you want to pull it up. First I'd suggest finding a cheap thermometer and place it in a room about 5 feet away from under the fan and about 4 feet off the floor or so & run the fan at a medium speed for about a half hour.
Then reverse the direction of the fan and again run it on medium speed and check the thermometer again after about a half hour. Naturally the cooler temp will indicate which direction to run the fan.
Personally, I prefer to have them blow the air down to where I am. Having said that, however, I just read an article in my local electric co-op's newspaper stated that you need to reverse that so that the hot air is drawn upward, away from where you are.
The air should blow down,so clockwise would be the direction.Down in Summer and up in Winter..
