Why does it take two clicks to turn the lamp on?

Question:Y'know those lamps with the little switch sticking out that you have to twist. You twist until it clicks but you have to do it twice to turn it on or off. Seems like most (or all?) lamps with the twist-clicker switch thing take two clicks to get anything done and I never knew why but I've always wondered.

Answers:
This is a 4 position switch. If you buy a light bulb with three wattage settings on it,( example, 25, 50, 75), then the lamp will work as off, low, medium, and high. The next click will bring it back to off again.

The lamp is equipped to use 3-way bulbs; low, med.,and high. Using a regular bulb will cause this.Buy a three way bulb and check it out.
