What are Gutters and how do clean them?

Question:Okay...I just brought my first house. I'm a single lady living alone. I hear people talking about gutters and cleaning them, But what are they talking about. What are gutters and how do you clean them. And what else do I do with them? Help please

Answers:
Gutters are at the edge of your roof and they catch all the rain coming of your roof. The rain then goes into the downspouts which run down the side of your house. You would clean these by getting on a ladder, putting on gloves, and then removing all the excess dirt and leaves so the gutters can do their job properly and allow the water to flow through them and not over them.

Gutters are the thing you may or may not have that are at the ends of your roof line. I was always under the impression all homes had gutters, but I have moved to SC and many home here do not. They are to channel the rain water to the sides of your home and keep it from running straight down the roof. The easiest way to clean them would be to get a hose with a pretty powerful nozzle on it, climb a ladder and hose out the debris in the gutter.
Some people don't have them
they are the ducts around the roof that direct the rain to the groud.
They are the eaves troughs around the edge of your roof. They get clogged up in the fall with leaves if you have trees around you in any amount. If so, they should be hosed out before the snow flies. If it doesn't snow where you are, the rain will back up too.
