Could holes in my back yard be caused by snakes?
Question:There are wierd holes in the dirt in my back yard. Someone told me they are made by snakes. My house backs to woods and there are many critters living out there. What do you think? Snakes? if so are there plants that repel them?

well in the back yard there are alot of creatures in there..For example there could be a garden snake..But there could be other things that can cause them one time there was a gerbil in my backyard and it was making them holes also. My advice to you is to re-dirt the garden by added new dirt on top of it. this makes what ever it is looses it senses and goes somewhere else
yes, or moles or some little animal like that. if the hole is big enough than in could evn be a bigger animal
Not snakes. More like burrowing animals. Small rodents of some kind...
The holes were most likely made by cicadas burrowing out of the ground.
Depending on the size of the holes, it could be snakes. It might also be moles.

It could be a lot of animals. Turtles, squirrels, snakes, moles, rats, even wild mud crawfish.
if they are mounds of dirt piled up like a mini-pyramid, they could be moles. Moles are all right because they "ventilate" the ground, occasionally they eat some roots.

snakes, crawfish, some frogs, moles, gophers, etc make holes in yards. If you have a snake or two in your yard, you shouldn't have to worry about mice, gophers, moles,etc.
Have you considered the fact that it may be a mole digging your yard? Is there lots of dirt sitting around the hole? I had a mole make holes in my flower bed ..grrrrrr..dumb mole !
i have never heard of snakes making the holes but i know they do occupy ones made by squirrels , chipmunks and moles . go to ur garden center they do make a snake repellent , don;t know it i works , i never tried it .. good luck ! a stuffed owl or garden ornament might work also
Probably moles or armadillos, I would put out a night vision camera to catch what's making those holes.
If you like you can buy a hunting camera and stick it in the fence or on the tree and it will take pictures of anything that moves in its way. Its not expensive at all. Just a thought.

"made by snakes"?
Snakes don't make holes they move in holes and eat what is in them. Holes started from another animal and some may have snakes in them now.
Snakes can't dig holes. They don't have any hands (or paws).
