African Violets - Do they bloom continuously or once a year?

Question:I just bought an African Violet. It has fuzzy green thick leaves and it was already in bloom with about 6 branches of flowers. Now the flowers are starting to wilt... Should I cut the flowers off? Would they just fall off? Will more flowers come out or do I have to wait for next year? What should I do to keep it blooming?

Answers:
Mine bloom a few times a year. It's important to let them get a little dry between waterings - they don't tolerate soggy roots at all. Make sure the pot they are in has good drainage.

I usually let the flowers dry out and then I just pick them off.

My grandmother (queen of african violets) swears that violets like to have friends close by. So she always keeps them in twos and lets their leaves touch...

Enjoy!

mine blooms all year round.
My mom bought a little one last year, now expanded to much, it is in 2 containers. They grow fast. Hers have been blooming for about 3 months. I think you should cut them on a 45 degree angle. I think you should look up african violets on yahoo, and read about them, just to make sure.
Try these websites. Hope they help. I have always heard that violets always bloom every 6 wks. This was because they used to give you an African violet when you gave blood. When it bloomed again, in 6 wks., you could give blood again. Good luck!
