Why do icky bugs seem to come out of sink and tub drains in the summer?

Question:We tend to find bugs in the sink and tub during the summer months - centipedes, earwigs, slimy things. Why do they always seem to turn up near a drain?

Answers:
You've got a leaky pipe somewhere in the house. They're attracted to the water around the leak and they are crawling into the pipe.
.

They don't come out of the drains. A few inches below the open drain is a "trap" that holds water. They would be unable to pass through the water.

They are falling into the sink/tub from the edge and are unable to climb the steep sides.

Some bugs like moisture, so they seek out your sinks and tubs.
I have this same exact problem in my bathtub!

Every morning I am greeted by a "creature" from the underground world in my tub! It's usually a spider. And I ask myself...where in the heck does it come from...and how does it crawl up through the drain and sliver through the tiny holes in the strainer covering the drain?

I can only guess that a perhaps a pipe might be cracked and leaking under my tub into the ground below, and the spiders somehow manage to crawl up the pipe and end up in the tub.
One night I am going to cover the drain and see if they are still there in the morning. Then I will know!

It does "BUG" me though too!
