How can i keep a room cool...?
Question:I am in a bedroom sized dorm room. My roommate and I do not have air conditioning but we do have two fans and an opening window. It is about 85 degree weather at night, which is primarily when we are in the room. How do we keep the room cool so we can sleep comfortably.
P.S.-If anyone can also help with a loud train that comes by every hour. We are at a camp with no access to a store to purchase earplugs. Any suggestions?

Be sure if there is a closet that you close the door after each use. Place one fan blowing out the window to the outside and one in a window blowing in the room. If you have only one window have it blowing in. Do this only at night. When you wake up, take the fan out of the window, close the window and the blind or curtain. Keep the room dark. Place the fan back in the window after the sun is setting. This should help. You can also put aluminum foil over the glass of the window to deflect the sun. Good Luck, I have been through this many times. By the way, if you soak your feet in cold water before you go to bed, it will cool off your body temp.
Sorry about the train, you could wad up tissue and put in your ears. Also the sound of the fans running and maybe a low radio might help.
i would keep a bowl of water handy and a washcloth and refresh youself if you wake up. keep a small water bottle handy so you dont use the same old water over n over
