Can solar lights can be used at night on airport runways?
Question:LOL! I just had to ask this!
Answers:
Almost any other use would be better for solar power than runway lights. At airports with paved runways and instrument approach, lighting systems have to become very bright so pilots can see them through fog or driving rain. Accumulating enough power in batteries to be sure to never run out even after days of overcast and run the lights at high intensity is not well situated for solar systems.
Yes, they can.its called stored potential energy, but it does sound stupid...kind of like the guys who say they are going to the sun on vacation, What won't you burn up? Of course not we're going at night! Hahahahahaha (I knew I would be able to use that some day) *wink*
No. They are not bright enough and they dont stay "charged" for long periods of time generally. They are useful in places like cemetaries and on sidewalks and such because they are usually only needed for the dusk and early hours of darkness where airport runways are used all hours.
Yes, with a batt. for nite,But i wouldnt trust a battery for too long. maybe for dead people?!
Just a guess but I suspect the answer is no. The solar cells take up too much room and would interfear with snow removal. A light dusting of snow would render them ineffective. They must be seen a long way out.
