For the past month I have found about six or seven carpenter ants inside...how do i get rid of them??
Question:Also, does anyone know why they are even inside?? We live in a circa 1800's house so I am not sure if this is one of the reasons they are getting in. Also, I believe they are carpenter ants.they are black and VERY large. I have set traps and I don't think have done a thing.
Thanks in advance!

There's a product out called Taro that has arsenic in it. The ants will suck it up and carry it back to the nest which will be eaten by the ants, and destroy the nest and queen. I wouldn't advise using if you have small children. If so you can sprinkle dried grits around where you seen them they will take it to the nest when the grits are eaten ants need water so the grits will expand and cause the ants to explode.
There's probably 6 or 7 hundred thousand more, get an exterminator
Wash eveything down and mop with murphy's oil soap.Ants don't like it.
carpenter ants are usually around due to rotting wood. you should hire an exterminator to check it out and this will also help you find the source of the rotting wood so it can be repaired . these little critters are alittle difficult to get rid of. wish you luck
ants are very territorial, expose them for an other tribe of ants, and they kill each other if introduced in the right manner. First find their nest, add another group of the same kinds of ants. they will fight for their queen. And eventually kill each other and hopefully the queen
We get all kinds inside too (sigh).
The ant baits sometimes work.
Some natural/cheaper ways I've read to rid: brew Strong Mint Tea & spray on path & along baseboards, around windows & doors.
Also a couple of recipes:
#1 - 5 T cornmeal, 3 T bacon grease, 3 T baking powder, 3 pkgs Brewer's Yeast - Mix 1st 2 ing - add 2nd 2 - Put on jar lids or...
#2 - 1 c sugar, 3 c water, 1 T Boric Acid - boil sugar & water - add BA - put in jar lids or... Will store @ room temp in container *don't use this 1 around pets/kids*
Pest ppl do great but can be more pricey!
Good Luck!
For large ants - put out some hominy grits. They will take
it back to there nest. When it is eaten it will swell up inside
them and they will die. Put out plenty.
For small ants - put out corn meal. Its easy for them to
handle and will do the same thing.
There are not any preventative products on the market that a homeowner can buy that are effective. As far as things you can do,Eliminate conducive conditions,Make sure there is no wood-soil contact, trees touching the home, moisture conditions in the home or against it,rotten wood is replaced and sealed, mulch is not piled against the house, and firewood is stored away from the home. The only products that will work are done by a professional,do not take shortcuts in protecting your home.Call a Pest Control Professional and have a proper treatment performed. The best products are baits.Sprays just scatter the ants and will result in a larger infestation. As far as treating the wood,if you can find Borate treated wood then that will help
We bought a New house about 20 years ago. It was next to some woods. About a year after we moved in we found out we had Carpenter ants. Called an exterminator. They come every month, 10 months out of the year, for 20 years. Any exterminator will tell you once you got them, you've got them. They will come back and can do more damage than termites. They did guarantee that we wouldn't have any bugs and we never did. Take that back, got those little bitty black ants once and the guy was there that afternoon. It cost us $40 a month. Best money we ever spent. Guess I gave u good news and bad news, The age of your house really isn't relevent. Traps do nothing. They are after wetness.
