I need some ideas for a housewarming gift on the fly! No gift cards, I need to wrap something...?
Question:The couple has been married and living on their own for several years (they have two children) so they have all the home basics. They recently became homeowners instead of renters, I have no idea what to buy..hoping for a unique idea.
Answers:
get them some house numbers made on a plate for their address with their name, maybe find someone who paints mail boxes and put the name and address on it.
personalize a door mat with the Wilson's on it. (example)
bird feeders, or gardening benches are fun to use.
take a nice picture of the home and have it blown up and framed. Put their name plate on the bottom.
hope this has helped.
Scented candles and potpourri is always a good gift to give as a housewarming gift.
A few bottles of nice, cheap wine (check out the Yellowtail line) and nice glass set would make my day.
"Coupon books" are always fun. Maybe a few slips saying free babysitting, lawn mowing, painting, gutter cleaning, pet sitting, computer fixing, cleaning, etc... would be a nice gesture. They're basically IOU slips so they can call on you for help with those chores. They'd be a great addition to whatever you pick out and it's certainly unique. Besides, what parent would turn down a free night of babysitting?
Do your friends host parties alot? Maybe drink mixes (martini or margarita kits) would work.
Perhaps focus on the yard; as renters, they couldn't do alot before. Think gardening, ornaments, and lighting.
Linens N' Things, Bed Bath & Beyond, and World Market may help out. Just browse online untill you find inspiration.
I have the coolest idea! Get a nice wicker basket and fill it with cleaning supplies! They have been together for a while so they probaly have everything they need as far as housewares! The basket can be used for a center piece or a catch all for toys and such! Good Luck!
I agree with Teashy about the scented candles and potpourri.
Still, this is not a really unique idea.
What do you know about them?
Other than children, do they have pets?
A box containing a treat for each 'member of the family' might be an idea.
You can include chewie treats for the pets, age-appropriate gifts for the children, and something for the adults.
If you wrap each gift separately and them throw them all in a big box, wrapping that one, too, it should make an entertaining gift.
To wrap the big box, consider using recycled paper bags from the grocery store. Tape them together with magic tape to fit around the big box, and make it look like an overseas package,
"To the XXX family, from the land of Yore", or some such playful idea.
