Maybe you can help me w/ this problem?

Question:This is the only catergory I know to ask this question in.Yesterday I found a black snake in my house...we have NO holes anywhere, but last week I did have my dryer vent unhooked for like 24 hrs and we think that may be where he got in.I have a baby and want to make sure this never happens again!! My question is this: Does anyone know any home remedies that keep snakes away, but is safe for other animals?? I have dogs and cats! Also we live in the country and yes I know snakes are going to be around, I just want something that will help keep them away from the house!

PLZ HELP!!

Answers:
Don't be afraid. Black snakes are a good thing. They eat mice and other rodents, and even other snakes.
Snakes are in attics all the time, except when it really hot. People just don't see them. Don't worry, you really don't have a problem. Only pit vipers -rattlesnakes and copperheads, and moccasins, pose a threat.

I'm not sure but I think you can put a screen on dryer vent. Also I have heard that moth balls keep snakes away. I would put a couple out around where you think they may come in, but where your kids and animals may not find them. I had problems with copperheads last year and was told to use them. I haven't seen one since, but can't swear that was what ran them off. Just remember snakes help with mice population in country as long as they aren't poisonous, but I'm with you don't want them in my house. Hope this will help and Good Luck!
If your dryer vent is only way the snake could have gotten into your house then the solution is a simple one. You can buy an attachment for the outside of the vent that is designed to keep pests out. You should be able to find these at a well stocked hardware store maybe even at Wal-Mart. If not you can order them online at like home depot or Lowe's. They are easy to install with normal household hand tools.
Trust me this works also, play music in the house when you leave, something with a lot of bass and crank it, if they are in there they will leave, they hate the vibration it gives them..I also live in the country and use this quite often...keeps them away..tvtop_toptv
