Anyone know of a safe way to rid one's home of roaches?
Question:I just moved into an apartment that has roaches in it, just one here and there but, even one is too many, ya know? Do you have an idea that I can put into use for ridding my home of them? I have birds and a cat who is 23 so I need something that is safe to use around them as well as kids.
Being a clean freak and seeing a roach has got me rattled and I would appreciate any suggestions!!
Thanks guys:)

use DE diatamacious earth it is harmless to animals but will kill isects by absorbing all the moister from there bodies leaving only the exoskeleton you can find it at feed stores or garden centers. A sprinkling of de on your pets food will rid them or intestinal parasites
Call an exterminator.roaches are hard to get rid of. You'll be best off with a professional.
Talk to your landlord about taking care of it...if you just moved in it shouldn't be your responsibility to deal with the infestation.
Large Green Tree Frogs! (they are not messy and will eat the roaches) It really works!
Birds and old cats complicate the issue. Almost anything will kill a bird. I suggest-make sure there is absolutely NO-NO.NO food stuffs left out for the roaches to feed on. Keep all crumbs ans such cleaned up. Then go to a hardware or feed store and find some roach bait. Put it where you see the bugs, but not where the birds can get it. Thats the safest thing you can do. Then keep a fly swatter handy and use it. When the last one is dead-they will be gone. If these are outside bugs then it should be easy, if they are inside bugs (german roaches) you may be in for a battle.
Being a clean freak helps, since roaches depend on the slightest bit of food etc. to survive. They can be especially prevalent around the kitchen area for this reason. Roaches actually "breathe" through their legs...for this reason, some have used Boric Acid (the powdered stuff) at the inside corners of the kitchen sink cabinet (this does work). Also, remember that the breeding cycle for roaches is every 16 days.this is why the once-a-month treatments offered by pest control companies are usually ineffective. All it takes is one "nasty" family in an apartment building or series of row-homes to infest everyone. You might want to have a chat with the landlord, but don't hold your breath until he/she addresses the problem.
