Where are the flies coming from?
Question:We are very clean people with a clean house. One morning we came downstairs to the kitchen and there were around 40-50 flies flying all around the kitchen and house.. totally out of the blue. How one day did all these flies just appear and why.. we could not figure it out. Serious answers only. We are clean people and did not leave food out or in the garbage. There was litterally around 50 flies we spent 3 hrs swatting.

When flies lay eggs, they lay lots of them, and they all hatch at once, and the maggots all mature about the same time. Flies don't need much to raise their nasty little families . . . a little speck of something such as a slice of cucumber or a cube of potato or a small bit of chicken skin that goes un-noticed by even clean families such as yours may get stuck on the bottom of a garbage receptacle in the kitchen. Or maybe one of your pets brings in a little playmate like a lizard, which expires under the couch after an overexuberant play-session with Fluffy. Mama Fly sneaks in the door while you are bringing in the newspaper one day, finds it and lays her eggs, and all of the sudden, you are hosting an invasion. There is no shame in this. If it happened to Pharoah in Egypt, it can happen to anybody. To prevent a recurrence, check all your window screens and the seals to your doors. You may want to empty all trash receptacles in the house. Examine each one for sticky residue inside, under the lid and rim, and outside and on the bottoms. Also check the areas where the trash receptacles are placed in case something fell out or someone in a hurry missed the opening. It may have been a one-time thing, but if it recurs, you should check all your vents, seal the electrical outlet and switchplates, and openings around plumbing pipes in kitchens and bathrooms. There may be some fly-attracting debris within the walls or near the pipe exits that needs to be found and eliminated. Good luck to you, I know it's aggravating when that happens.
Did you smell anything funny? Is your house on a slab or do you have a crawl space? If you have a crawl space maybe a small animal got stuck under there and died. The flies are attracted to the dead animal.
