Is there any way you can stop maggots in your bin?
Question:We are really careful about making sure all bags that go into the bin are well tied up. We pick our dogs poo up as soon as we know he has done one and double bag it. But sure enough over the summer we open our bin to put rubbish in and it looks like a maggot farm, it is really disgusting, we always disenfect it when it is emptied every 2 weeks. Is there anything else we can do to prevent them?
Answers:
keep the bin in the shade
keep the bin dry
and keep spraying
empty the bin more?
put an inch or two of bleach in the bottom and leave it there until bin day
Try drowning them with boiling water.
Or, any perticide that contains PERMETHRIN should do the trick.
Make sure that you rinse out all the trays where meat was, and wrappers where cold cuts and bacon were in . Add a bit of laundry detergent and bleach to your garbage bags and on the bottom of the cans .This should solve it!
You can buy "Dustbin Powder" - think it is a Jeyes product; works for us - we have cat litter.
