Can someone tell me if houseplants cause dust?
Question:I know that houseplants can gather dust on their leaves but do they actually cause dust? Our house has a few plants in every room (well over 100 plants in total) and we have an unusualy high amount of dust and I woundered if plants could be part of the problem. Thanks!

well, i don't think the actual plant causes dust, there is however more place for dust to fall... also perhaps the soil has something to do with it, especially if the dirt is dry... maybe you can put something over the dirt... they sell this stuff, sorry i dnt know the name, but they sell it for orchids. basically to keep the moisture in.. sort of like a moss type thing... so the dirt is not exposed... hope that may help. Also try asking your local gardners for some advise.. (at the nursery)
You just answered your own question, not only wil you get dust in the house off their leaves but the wind hitting dry soil will cause more dust as well. I love plants, usually palm trees, but 100 in a house seem too many to me.
The plants don't cause dust, but the large amount you have- -
You might want to think about your ventilation system moving air over all the dirt surfaces of the pots.
Here in Phoenix we have much dust from outdoors because there are so many areas not covered with plants- dry bare earth creates dust-hope that helps you.
They don't cause dust, they just collect them. I wouldn't get rid of them because plants clean the air in your house. Dust comes with or without plants.
they don't actually cause it but instead dusts accumulates on the leaves because no one bothers to clean them. bring out those plants and wash the leaves with water hose. adjust the water as a sprinkle so as not to damage the leaves. those plants just came from the inside so they are very weak. don't put them on a direct sunlight, they will die.
