If bugs spend their whole life trying to get to the light, why don't the end upa t the sun?
Install a bug zapper
turn the light off... bugs spend their whole life trying to get closer to the light,,, ide tell you to spray your light with bug spray but that might be dangerous
Yellow light is recommended to attract fewer bugs.
get a bug light (yellow) or a bug zapper all bugs love the heat and white light they produce
Yellow lights are invisible to most flying insects. Try one. They're also marketed under the term "Bug Lights."
I hate to burst everyone else's bubble but putting in a bug zapper isn't going to stop the bugs from migrating toward the light on your front door. In fact, it will increase the number of bugs there... not to mention leave your door step littered with dead bugs. I would suggest 1 of 2 things:
1) Turn your front door light off, or
2) If you feel safer with lights outside your door, purchase path lights, motion sensored lights, or convince your city or town to invest in some street lights.
Personally I would try the motions sensored lights as they will be effective when you need them but limit the bugs at your door.
switch off the lights.
Use yellow bulbs. IT works, for some strange reason.
Bugs are attracted to light. It's a sad fact of nature for a person with a front porch full of bugs.
Here's a few tips to try.
1) Try to keep the light off unless you are actually using it to go outside.
2) Buy a bug lite (yellow bulb) available at most general stores that sell light bulbs.
3) If you have a yard light away from your door, keep it on.
4) Light citronella candles on your front porch. This will deter the bugs that do come by.
5) Do NOT install a bug zapper. These actually attract more bugs.
6) Hang a strip of flypaper next to your light. This will trap the bugs that do come and fly around. Just make sure you don't hang it in your walking path. You do NOT want one of these to get stuck in your hair! (personal experience) Yuck.
Hope this helps. And good luck with the buggies.
There is no way to prevent them unless you go "lightless" on the porch..here is why they come to l;ight...bugs get thier bearings from the sun, like a built in global positioning system(gps). Thus when a bright light appears they hover around it meaninglessly to try and get thier directions in gear, but end up confused..therefore..they play "here we go around the maypole'...this is a reason a bee will attack more also when you swat at them..you are interfering with thier gps by waving and swatting between them and the sun, and it pisses them off...there are other factors here too as well..like if they feel you are a threat to thier nest/area
