I am having problems with ants on my hummingbird feeder, any help?
Question:They are the small black ants and with the dry weather I have tried using Seven dust with no results. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Answers:
Punch a small hole in a lid, put your wire or whatever you use to hang the feeder, through the small hole, seal around it, with waterproof sealant. Hang the feeder back up, and fill the lid with water. The ants will not go through the water. Put it up high enough on the wire hanger, so that they can't get over it, about half way. That should do it. Some feeders come with an attachment like that. Hummingbirds won't drink out of the feeder if it has ants in it, especially if the ants get inside and drown in there. Good luck with your "hummers".
Use an ant moat
An ant moat is a small cup-like device that hangs between your feeder and your hook. Fill it with water, and it creates a barrier to ants.
