Whats the difference between terra-cotta and clay pots???
Question:Just wondering...<3
Answers:
Terra cotta is an earthenware clay brown when fired Im sure it remains porous after firing whereas, stoneware and porcelain dont?....clay pots can be terracotta or stoneware which usually fires grey, yellow or white.
I thought they were the same?!?
no difference
Terra-cotta is air dried while most of the clay pots sold at garden stores are kiln dried.
.
There are overlaps however.
I have seen Terra-cotta tiles that were kiln dried.
Some people describe Terra-cotta as more decorative, but then clay pots can be decorated as well.
.
I was told at a garden store that the Terra-cotta pots were more durable.
I was told by a potterer that any thing that is kiln dried is stronger.
But clay pots are kiln dried at low temp unlike real pottery and sometimes Terra-cotta figurines are kiln dried.
.
Do I sound confused? I am, because I think the two different words are being used to describe the same thing!
Terracotta is a type of clay, red/brown in colour, from Terracotta soil. Not all clay is that colour (grey for instance)!
they are the same thing
