Is there anyway to get rid of wood worm without using all the harsh chemicals avalible on the market?
Question:We have woodworm in our house on our wooden windows. We want to get rid of them but we arn't keen on using chemicals. Does anyone know if there are any natural things we can do to get rid of them..besides getting rid of the wood.
Answers:
"harsh" chemicals are not the norm any more, woodworm killers are available now that are water based. Chemicals in them to kill the woodworm maybe, but not the choking solvents that were once used, much better.
chemicals it has to be I'm afraid.
Not really you've got to seek them out and destroy them.
you could always ask them nicely to leave.
Look for a book by Brian Ridout on Timber conservation. Ridout is a great timber conservator who despises chemicals. You can find him at www.ridoutassociates.com. You don't say if your timber is old or new, what the cause of the infestation is etc. so I can't prescribe a diagnosis and treatment like this, but if you red on the matter or call an expert conservator you could avoid chemicals. Sometimes the timber is just poor quality, but sometimes it is the moisture that somehow is trapped in the timber and allows the insects to attack it.
Well you can use neat parafin which is cheap at least.
Woodworm will die naturally if the timber is dry.
a envoironmental worm from an organic garden not the one with false teeth
If the timber is dry the wood worm cannot survive. A few holes in a large bit of timber are unlikely to weaken it enough to do any damage.
