Hi there. I have a garage sale question.?

Question:Ok I'm 12. I'm having a garage sale soon. I need to know if you guys have any pointers to get more people to my garage sale. I'm not allowed to have any signs in my town about my sale anywhere. Only 1 in fornt of my house. Does anybody have any pointers on how to make my garage sale successful?

Answers:
1) Advertise in the paper and in local stores. Most grocery and family-centered fast food area will let you put up fliers.

2) Price low and be willing to barter--people aren't going to be interested in stopping if you have something marked too high. They aren't buying this stuff retail for a good reason.

3) Be sure you have enough stuff. I have seen a LOT of garage sales that have a few good items and a LOT of junk. Don't mess with clothes unless they are infant clothes; either donate them or give them to a consignment shop if you think they are worth something.

4) ATTRACT!! If you can, find a friend who lives on a major intersection. Hold it there. You want TRAFFIC and people to stop.

tell family, friends, calssmates, etc. to support you. and if you can advertise your garage sale in the newspaper
Post signs at the local post office or any other place you can, put it in the newspaper or any l.ocal free trade papers. Most serious yard salers will read the papers and map out route
put it in the paper..

thats a great place..

put it in the paper and have it on a friday, sat, sun

and if your only allowed one sign..

MAKE A HUGE FRICKIN SIGN!!
That will NOT work.

You need a lot of signs.

An ad in the paper may help, but that will cost about $20
See if you can't get some neighbors to have one the same day and chip in to run a newspaper want ad, should get lots of people.
Show all you good stuff in front and sell refreshments if it is hot.
well you can have a friend stand on the corner w a sign for the sale! you can call lots of your friends before and ask them to spread the word for you,, goodluck
Make up some posters and put them out that morning anyways - who says you can't have signs?? That's ridiculous!
Put an ad in the newspaper and distribute flyers at local stores. You can also send emails to family and friends and ask them to spread the word about the tag sale.

Can you put a sign in your own yard?
Put an add in the newspaper. Some papers have a garage sale section. Price everything, start high, (what you would pay for it,) let people talk you down a little in price...(folks are looking for bargins!) Put everything out...even if you think it's junk, someone else may be looking for that very item! Good luck to you! make lots of money!
If you are only allowed 1 sign, make sure to put it so that both sides can be read by traffic going by in BIG letters and take an ad out in the local paper, newspaper garage sale ads are very inexpensive but get a lot of attention..

Can't your neighbors each put a sign for your sale in their yard too?
tell your friends and ask them if they can ask there parentses frineds and so on and so forth
you'll need a really big sign! REALLY REALLY BIG!
about 3 stories high! with flourescent colors and LOUD music! also use the word FREE alot! (Like a free bag with every purchase!)
If you can't put signs out then put an ad in the local paper under yard, and garage sales. It's cheap and it will get a ton of people to your house.

Because you can't put up signs tell them a popular place in town and say follow the..pick a wild color...balloons. Put the balloons at the end of the streets where they need to turn and a few more on the way to your house. You can purchase a bag of large blow up balloons for less than $4 and it will catch peoples eye!

Good luck honey, and remember to mark things people hate to ask how much!
Hi Jamgirl!

I would really recommend that you post an ad on craigslist.org. It is free and has a lot of readers. You can also list some of the major things you are selling.

Be sure you are posting in a local craigslist page, by default it drops you into the Bay Area. Also, you may not want to put any contact information, even an anonymous reply to address may get you a lot of questions. Get right to the point of the day(s), time and address. OH, you should also include "NO EARLY BIRDS" so people are not knocking on your door way early.

Good luck!
That's so weird I'm 12 and I just had a garage sale a couple days ago well I guess not that weird. Well I think that it helps to have a certain space for every category. And if your selling any books than you should make sure most of the books are in a position so they can see the spine. Also it helps to have a medium sized sign with large print and wave it around by the garage sale. Trust me it gets a lot of people's attention.
No signs...bummer. What about posting at the grocery store? Get other neighbors to have a sale on the same day and chip in for an ad in the local newspaper. Make lemonade or ice tea.
Print flyers off your computer and stuff them in mailboxes since you arent allowed to hand them out. Go downtown and leave them on people's windshields. Day of garage sale put some balloons outside your house, that will also draw interest. When I was your age we use to sell cookies, brownies and lemonade at our garage sales to make extra cash.
Including fliers? See if you could put those up.

Also, if you can afford it, you can send invitations to mailboxes around your neighborhood.

Hope you get your laptop!
