Are the "hybrid" air conditioners worth the investment?
Question:We want to install central air conditioning in our new home in the Denver, CO area and was wondering if it is worth our money to invest in the hybrid model that cools in the summer; and heats the house like a furnace when the temperature is above 35 degrees? Which central air conditioning brand is best? Which brand to stay away from?
Answers:
In short, yes, it is definitely worth the investment. On average, a hybrid heat model is roughly 35% more expensive, but can save hundreds a year in air conditioning, especially as energy prices increase.
The hybrid models all work differently. Some engage a separate mode of heating after a certain level of outdoor temperature. Bryant models automatically adjust based on the price of fuel, and balance the most cost and energy efficient method to heat your home (electric or gas).
Bryant also has an interactive tool which not only shows you how the system works, but shows you how much you will save annually. Fortunately, for you, it is keyed to Denver!
