How to get rid of magpies? These awful birds sit outside my window and squawk every morning at dawn, HELP!!?
Question:I live in a condo complex, so there are two rows of buildings, these birds sit on an evergreen right between the buildings and scream all morning! Obviously, I can't shoot at them, since I could miss- and hit someone's window. I dont' think I could poision them because there are sooo many, and there are a lot of pets outside too- I don't want to harm someone's pet. But these birds are driving me crazy!! I can still hear them through my window when it's closed, and I have a pillow over my head!!

Buy yourself a owl decoy (fake owl). Preferably a Great Horned Owl. You should be able to find one at Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply Co., Lowes, Dick's Sporting Goods. I know I saw one at a Wal-Mart. Attach it somehow to your outer window sill or somwhere outside in the area these noisy birds are. This should deter them from sticking around. Buy more than one if you can afford it. This is not a guaranteed fix but it sounds like your only option. I've known farmers to use them around they're family garden to deter crows & rodents from harming the crop. GOOD LUCK!!!
Get a set of earplugs. I generally buy the really soft foam ones (the container has 100). They help damp out the noise enough that I can sleep. You're right though, you'll never get rid of the magpies, and if you poison them, you might end up poisoning someone else's pet.
if you want to go the cheap way try using something like a silver streamer something that's going to reflect the sun light..birds will not go near anything that's flashing..
i really, truely can sympathize with this. i get off on the wrong side of the bed when those bastards start at the buttcrack of dawn. if you ask the management company, regarding this nuisance, they will have to address it, because all landlords have a duty to thier tennants to provide reasonable peace. there are laws governing this, they vary by state. . maybe an exterminator would have ideas as well
if you want to be sneaky at night when nobody's looking though, you can take two socks, fill them half way w/ mothballs and tie them off, connect them with a strong string or rope, and throw them up into the tree tops and branches. obviously, you would need to make several.
or you can turn on bathroom exhaust fan or other white noise.
Try this out - it really works
PiGNX® Caulking Gel is a new generation of unique pigeon deterrents or bio-repellants called NAs’ or Natural Actives. Natural Actives are eco-friendly products that are made from natural chemicals or ingredients found in plants. PiGNX® Caulking Gel is one of the very first bio-repellents for birds and pigeons. PiGNX® is made with a Natural Vegetable Extract (NVE). How does it work? The NVE used in PiGNX® works in two (2) major ways. First, PiGNX®‘s formulation of NAs actually makes bird or pigeons leave as a result of physical contact with the gel. Birds and pigeons do not like the physical interaction caused by the NVE and the sensation induces the natural instinct of the bird to seek safety immediately else where. Second, the odor or gas that is given off by our NVE, is very uncomfortable to the smell of the bird or pigeons. PiGNX® reacts with the bird's sense of smell, touch and instinct.
Do not confuse Natural Actives with other non-active products or one dimensional gels with no-active ingredients. Natural Active = non-evasive.
PiGNX® is used to prevent the roosting & congregation of birds or pigeons in unwanted areas
