Sorry, but it sounds like german roaches to me. If so, you are in for a battle. The problem is that they have developed an immunity to most pesticides that are commonly used against them.
Find a pest control operator who will talk to you about it. Ask him if he can use "Orthene" ( it is safer than most pesticides for humans). He can get it that is labeled to use in a house. He will also need to use a hormone growth regulator, and he may add a pyrethium for a flushing agent. If he will agree to do it-that is only half the battle. You will have to empty out all your cabinets, drawers, furniture and so on. Make sure as you empty out that you put your stuff in a garbage bag and seal it up so roaches can not get in there.Do you see how big this job is getting. Then he must use a lot of this material-he should know how. The first day he should kill all roaches. Don't let him leave until nothing is moving. Then in a few days you will begin to see the new ones as they hatch. There may not be enough residual toxicity to kill them so you must kill them with a fly swatter or something. The growth regulator will still be active so the bugs will develop mutated and sterile. Hopefully they will not be able to reproduce--hopefully. But kill them all anyway as soon as you see them. Do not let even one escape-this is a bad bug. Eventually as the last egg hatches out ans shows himself you will be able to kill him. It should run its course in about a month.
Now-if you get this far, try to figure out how you got this bug. It does not come in from the outside-it comes from people. Either the bugs were there and you just moved into them or you or someone else brought that bug into your home in a bag of groceries, clothes or furniture. Figure out where they came and block the source-if you don't, well you will continue to resource your home and you will never get rid of them.
Get the Combat baits and put them all over the place. They are safe and effective.
Combat is great and they really work . They are also safe to use. You don't have to change them for 3 months.
