I love the mountains, I love heights, I can't be out in the sun, and I never did like getting sand between my toes (ha-ha).
I always wanted to live near the shore. I grew up on the Oregon coast.
The Asian Tsunami scared me, though, and now I want to live in the hight desert, around 7000 or 8000 feet, where you can smell the ponderosa pines.
Mountains: There are places, such as near Bristol, Tennessee (a mountainous area) that land/houses can be bought Cheap, and the cost of living is extremely low, and the air and water are reasonably clean. But there are no jobs there, and it's a long drive to city conveniences (malls, theater, etc.) (lots of retired people are moving to Bristol )
Ocean: you get waves and sand, but land and houses usuallly very expensive, often high cost of living.
Mountains!! Makes me feel closer to God. Plus I don't like the beach as I burn easy. Both the mountains and the ocean are quite beautiful so I could see why people would pick them both.
