Black fuzzy garden spiders.?
Question:Does anyone know their name? We have tons of them and I'd like to find some info on them, but none of my searches bring up anything that looks close. The biggest one's we have are almost 1/2 an inch. They're jumpy and don't make webs except to nest in (from what I've observed). Some have a blue-ish spot on their back.
Answers:
Exactly, they're there for the insects and should be considered an asset. I believe you're speaking of the Wolf Spider. Try not to worry too much about them, they won't bother us. Here's a little bit about them http://www.ext.vt.edu/departments/entomo...

Hope this was helpful :-)
It's probably a jumping spider
They are quite fast for their size and will hide. I occasionally find then in the crevises of my car. I have had they hide under the door handle and if not careful, they do bite.
I have been bitten in the past and it feels like a bee sting. I noticed a slight swelling and numbness of the area (like a bee sting).
They are probably in the garden catching bugs that otherwise would be eating the veggies (aphids, etc)
If they are not a problem around the house, I would leave them alone as they do help control problem pests in the garden.
