How do you get rid of snakes in your home?

Question:I was reaching behind my refrigator to pick up a peice paper, I saw it moving, then there was a copperhead snake lunging at my hand.I screamed and ran outside to get my husband...He came in and killed them..There were two of them. One was 32 inches long..one was about 27in..long...could there be more. This just seems so weird. Any ideas or tips on where to look to see if there may be more..also ,how do we go about getting them out if there are more Thanks, ... Nervous

Answers:
First of all, are you certain they were copperheads? I don't know where you live, but where I am from, copperheads don't usually get that long.

Hopefully, they were the only two. Snakes normally travel in pairs. Check to see if there is a hole in the wall behind your fridge. They could have very well entered there to get to water. I would contact a "pest" control company to find out their suggestions on how to check/rid snakes.

I found a very small snake (rat snake) in our home a few years ago in November. He had entered through a hole in the brick and then through yet another hole in the wall. I took a couple of personal days off to clean out closets, etc. (and used a rake!) I am so sorry this has happened to you all because I feel your pain even though I discovered only one tiny non venomous snake in my home. Don't dismiss this as a freak incident. I certainly can't see in to the future, but would rather you be safe than sorry. Do you have small children or animals? If so, beware! I have heard that snakes don't like mothballs. May be put a box or two of those out until you can contact the pros. Good luck!

Try to locate the hole they come in, and fill it with fiberglass insulation.
Buy a Mongoose !
wow.you cant, the only thing that kills deadly snakes is a mongoose.and i think they only kill cobra's. if you don't have cat's or dog's maybe get one, especially a cat. The snakes will feel uneasy about the cat and move to safer territory. Snakes usually live under rock's, caves and lay eggs. They like to make there home near food. If you have grain or a field nearby / outside that attracts mice or other critters...they feel like food is near by...that is another reason to get a cat. You have to let them know, the food is gone, and there not welcome! Good LucK and be careful!
